I used to be able to save a picture of what was on my monitor's screen by
pressing the print screen key. Now pressing that key initiates a screen
capture function. I can do that, but it's annoying and time consuming.

How can I do screen captures?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

PS. I am posting this inquery ion the H&S newsgroup also.

You need to paste the captured image into some program that accepts
images. MS Paint, Wordpad, MSO Picture Manager, or the like.

I'm not sure what difference you intend between "save a picture of what
was on my monitor's screen" and "initiate a screen capture function."

However, if what you want is to do screen captures easily and without
having to paste into MS Paint or the like, download IrfanView from
http://www.irfanview.com/
It's free, it is a viewer for a WIDE variety of graphic formats, it does
screen captures, and many other very useful functions.

I already have I-view 3.95. How would I do a screen capture on that? The
screen capture function doesn't seem to work.

Thank you.

I have a shortcut with hotkey Num1 & target:

"C:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe" /capture=1
/convert="F:\My_Documents\ScreenImages\$U([]%m%d%y@%H%M%S).gif"

which produced gif screenshot silently of active window
with filename=[][email protected] in directory
F:\My_Documents\ScreenImages\ when I pressed Num1 key

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

In your sig. please change the verb to a noun.

It just bugs me all to bits.

Ctrl F11 saves the screen and opens Irfanview with the image
