Scrambled thumbnail images

Hey all

Even after running the Windows XP Pro Repair procedure, I'm still having this problem with my system: Image thumbnails, as seen in Windows Explorer, are scrambled. In other words, The images shown in Explorer as previews do not match the actual image of each particular file. These are, primarily, JPEG files, and they are all different sizes

I can refresh the thumbnail image temporarily by opening it in Photoshop and saving the file as itself (overwriting it with its own name), or by modifying it and then saving it. When I do this, the thumbnail image reverts to a correct representation of the file. But this doesn't last for long. By next startup, many of the thumbnails have again become corrupted and incorrect.

My system is totally clean of viruses and worms. But it has been doing this for months. Since I work with over 6,000 image files, it's driving me crazy. I am unable to use Windows Explorer to find files

I would appreciate any help that can be offered.

Hi Roger

As you suggested, I changed the setting for storing thumbnails in the cache, and so far it seems to have solved the problem. Amazing and exhilarating. I'll try the other two suggestions if I continue to have difficulties.

One thing---where is the "thumbnail file database" located? I wasn't able to find it

Many thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your feedbak.

The database is a file called 'Thumbs.db' and it will only show if
you're logged as administrator and have checked 'show all hidden
files.'
Do a search for it in all folders.

Hope this helps.
