Anybody know if Microsoft has ever nailed down a real fix to their
Scheduled Tasks utility? I am a consultant having clients with just
about every MSft OS from 9x thru 2003 Server. I TRY to use the
Scheduler to automate backups, download virus updates etc. But over
the years every flavor of Microsoft OS eventually fails to run tasks,
reporting the following error in the log:
The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task
failed; therefore, the task did not run. Either an error occurred, or
no account information existed for the task. The specific error is:
0x8004130f: No account information could be found in the Task
Scheduler security database for the task indicated.
The above is from a WinXP PRO workstation, SP2 with all recent updates.
In the past when I've posted about this problem people were kind enough
to list the 4 or 5 KB articles that MSft has posted. But none apply to
my situation: FAT32, date changeover etc. do NOT apply to my machine.
HOW does the OS no longer recogonize the user account & password that
is associated with the failing tasks? I still log on every morning
using the same account username and password to my domain (Windows 2003
server). BTW it happened when NT server was used on domain too.
I've seen plenty of discussions from fellow consultants that the
scheduler is, and always has been, a finicky and many times unreliable
piece of software. I cannot believe Microsoft does not escalte this
bug to the TOP of their list. I can't even begin to tell you how many
customers THINK they have automated backups occurring every night, but
in reality they are failing because of this bug.
Could one of you MSft MVPs that wants to respond, also find a way to
report this officially to MSft? I'd be more than willing to run any
kind of diagnostics in the hopes of helping thousands of others who are
probably, unknowingly, affected too. I sure hope Bill Gates
understands the severity of this bug!
TIA,
-Mike
