I would like my computer on and running when I come to work in the morning.
I would also like to schedule a shut down.
Is there a way to schedule this in Scheduler?

Thanks in advance for any help.

There is no way to use scheduler to start the computer as it's not running
when the PC is off, thus it can't perform a scheduled task.

First off, having your computer start at a certain time depends
on the system's BIOS, not Windows. Check the manual that came
with your computer or the manufacturer's web site to see if
your system has this feature. If you're not sure, post back
with the make and model of your system.

You can use the Task Scheduler to shut down your system using
shutdown.exe -s -t 00. Take a look here for more info,

restart at a specific time

Thanks for the reply - i found the shut down, but hoped that there was a way
to start it up in the morning.
I have a Dell Dimension #GX260? What do you think?

2 possibilities for having it startup

(1) An option in your bios, which Nepatsfan has already alluded to
(often tapping the del key on boot enters setup)

(2) If you put your computer into hibernation, then you may also be able to
schedule a wakeup 'task' (with the 'Wake the computer to run this task'
option).

How about a Dell Optiplex GX260? Take a look at this web site
and make sure it applies to your system.

If that's your computer, take a look here,

Dell OptiPlex GX260 System Setup
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx260/en/ug/advfeat.htm#1101564

Scroll down to the "System Setup Options" section. "Auto Power
On" is the feature you'll need to enable. Unfortunately, here's
where the documentation gets a little vague. They don't
describe how you set this up. It's restart your computer. Hit
the F2 key as soon as you see anything displayed on the
monitor. From there you're on your own. I'd be on the lookout
for a section that has Power somewhere in the title.

Due to the sketchy instructions I'll pass along this advice.
First off, poking around in the system's BIOS can be tricky.
It's not something that the average computer user should even
consider messing around with. Before you make any changes be
certain that any important files on your computer are backed
up. Finally, ask yourself if having your computer automatically
start is worth the risk.

Note: If your computer is plugged into a power strip or surge
protector don't turn off those devices. There has to be a
source of power to the computer in order for it to start
automatically.

Good luck

If the BIOS doesn't support the feature then don't turn it off overnight,
just on the weekends. Lock the console using the Win+L keys. Another
option is put it in hibernation. That resumes quickly. A third option,
chill out, turn it on, get a cup of coffee and off you go.
