Scary temp files

I have files in my temp folder that will not allow me to delete them. They
all start with me_ and end in a long series of numbers and letters. They are
all semi-transparent and claim to take up 0 kb of space. One user on this
computer has been visiting a site that caused lots of headaches and an
eventual crash a couple of years ago so I am concerned these files have
something to do with the recent slow down I am experiencing. Anyone know what
these files are and/or how to delete them?

It sounds like your computer is infested with malware. If you have not
done so yet, go through these removal steps systematically:

You will note that the preparatory work says to delete temporary and
temporary Internet files. You may not be able to do this, even in Safe
Mode (where you should be doing all this work). In that case, just do
as much of the preparatory work as you can and run the scans.
