SCANPST says file is good but won't open

I have some trouble with a 880MB PST file that apprears
to be damaged - SCANPST says it is fine with no errors
but it fails to open - disk spins aendlessles and
vventually Outlook becomes non-responsive.

Any suggestions on next step?

Running Outlook 2002 SP2 (10.4712.4219)
+ all current fixes and patches
Windows XP
SP1+all current fixes and patches
