Not sure if this belongs here, but need answers. I have a HP Scanjet 4c
scanner and I am trying to get it to work with Win XP. During install it
keeps asking for files that are not in the install disks that came with the
scanner, however microsoft lists them as being on Win 98 disk. I threw them
out years ago. Any way to get these files and would they even work on Win
XP? One of the files it needs is "hpsjvxd.exe", there are others including
scsi files. Is there any hope?

Tried these before. HP tells me that it is a microsoft problem. Not sure
what to do. software from hp loads fine, however when Win XP starts and says
found new hardware, then it tells me that it can't find files to make it
work. These files are not on the hp software. They were included on the Win
98 disks, but even if I can get them, will they work on XP?

I agree with Carey on the new scanner suggestion. This is one area
where many hardware manufacturers, including HP, decided not to
provide Windows XP drivers.

The HP Website does say that their Deskscan 2.9 software may work with
this scanner model and Windows XP. See (long URL)

If you do decide to go for a new scanner, and if your scanning
requirements are not very demanding then you might find a better price
by purchasing a cheap printer/scanner/copier and just using it as a
scanner (or use the whole thing if you want). I needed a scanner
last week for my daughter and we ended up with a Lexmark PSC model
that was $30 CDN cheaper than any scanner we could find.

Good luck
