My old scanner had a lock. My HP scanjet 3670 doesn't seem to have a
lock and I'm not sure if I can drive it long distance. Is it safe?

Since nobody has replied to your question.

How was the scanner shipped to you, was it packed in such a way that the
scanner head would not move (such as a pin you had to pull out before using)
or was it free.

I would think that if you packed the scanner in the original carton or
similar packing, it would travel fine.

Also if the scanner was transported with the scanner head in a down
position, gravity pulling it down. It would travel ok if you don't run
motorcross. (you know with the big hill and jumps.)

I purchased the scanner at a computer store. I'm shipping most of my
stuff by UPS Ground since I'll be flying the 1200 miles. I don't know
if it would really be necessary to ship it with a smoother Priority
Mail and 2nd Day Air Delivery, or if good packaging will do.

Pack it well with lots of cushion. You do not want the scanner to slip
around in the package.

Maybe you should buy shipping insurance. That way if it is damaged in
shipment, you may have a claim.

Can you ask the computer store about shipping requirements?
