scanners and cameras

When scanning with an hp officejet r40 through scanners and
cameras, it does not give the option to add a .txt file
extension. I also cannot load the r40 software with windows
xp. Is there a solution ?

Scanning, unless you are doing OCR, does not produce a text file,
normally, usually a graphic jpg or the like. OCR, if using the
supplied software, will produce whatever file type the OCR software
allows. You should visit the HP site and see if there is an XP update
for the unit.
