scanner problems

Plugged in a Memorex 6136U scanner (which worked before I had to reload XP)
into a USB port. Had to use the old driver (not XP signed) to load the
hardware. Device Manager shows it working properly, but my software will not
recognize it. The Control Panel, Scanners and Camera page shows the scanner,
but clicking on it says it is unavailable. I don't understand how it can be
working properly but not be available. Am I missing something obvious?

That seems to have solved the problem. Don't know why the driver from the
Memorex installation disk didn't work, but this one seems to. Thanks.
