Scanner problems

I ran all the software to install a used scanner and the
scanner worked for a while. Now the computer tells me
there is no scanner connected. I tried to rerun the
software and it tells me there is an error and stops.
Just to let you know, I am a computer dummy. Please help
me. I can follow step by step instructions but can't
figure out problems. Thanks

Check the connecting cable between the scanner and the computer.
Reattach it if necessary. Shut down the computer first! When you
restart with the scanner on, does the computer find it now? If not,
then please let us know the make and model of the scanner and how it
connects (parallel port - the big long connector - or usb).
