Scanner newbie.. scan cloth and thick books!

Hi,

I know nothing about scanners, a client would like a relatively high
quality scanner which accurately shows the colour of the cloth they
scan. Her standard hp officejet just doesn't quite do the job. Another
problem they had was that they couldn't scan thick books because the
lid wouldn't close properly.

Can anyone help suggest a reasonably priced scanner that could do
both?

No matter which scanner she buys, she must create profiles for her monitor,
her scanner, and her printer to obtain the best match. It could easily be
that her existing scanner will be sufficient if she does those three things.

How about specifying her budget? "Reasonably priced" and "relatively high
quality" are conflicting requirements.
