I have a canoscan LiDE30 scanner and it will not work with my computer which
has windows xp in case that makes a difference. i have disconnected and
connected it again, still not working. It doesnt have an on/off switch that i
can see and it is unlocked. I have installed the driver and other bits from
the disk, still not working. I have tried practically everything on the canon
website. Most of the advice tells me that in device manager my device will be
there under imaging devices or other devices but its not at all and if i go
to add new device it lists practically every other machine but not mine.
Really struggling to see where im going wrong. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help!!!!!!

You must install the driver software BEFORE the first time
you plug the scanner in to the USB. Open Device Manager and
remove the scanner and the post.
Then install the software and plug the scanner in when
prompted by the install routine.

There is usually some third-party imaging software that
might have accompanied the scanner and this needs to be
installed inorder to convert the scanned images into a
workable form, e.g., *.jpg, *.gif, etc. It would appear
that only the hardware-associated files have only been
installed at this stage.

The LiDE30 works fine on a USB 1.1 port on my Windows XP
computer. Try deinstalling the driver and the CanoScan
software. Then unplug the scanner and reboot. Re-install the
software and reboot (again) *before* you plug the scanner into
the USB port. If that doesn't work, do what "BAR" said.
