Scaned Pages into Word, stored in DOC file or another directory

Ok, scaning 8 pages into WORD 2003. Scan software says each image is about
600 to 800K. When I'm done and I save the file, the whole file is 300 to 600
k.

Are we super compressing the images or is Word storing the images else ware??

Hi Lee:

Your scan program probably passes the images in as TIFF format.

Word stores bitmaps internally in PNG format. PNG is one twentieth the
size of uncompressed TIFF (or even smaller if Word spots the fact that the
images are black-and-white).
