I remember in windows 98 you could check your memory for errors by running
scandisk. Is there a way to check your memory in XP?

Scandisk did not check Memory (RAM) it checked the hard disk. Please do
not confuse them

Scandisk is not in XP. Instead use CHKDSK. Do a Start - All Programs -
Accessories - Command Prompt and give

CHKDSK /F C:

Reply Y to two complaining messages, then reboot for the check to be
carried out

Win98's Scandisk had absolutely nothing to do with checking a
computer's memory. What it checked was the integrity of the hard
drive's file system and the data stored thereon.

WinXP does not have a program called "Scandisk," as this was a
Win9x/Me program. Instead, because WinXP is descended from the WinNT/2K
OS family, it has a command line utility called "Chkdsk," which performs
much better.

Start > Run > Cmd > Chkdsk.exe /? for the correct syntax and
available options.

Alternatively, double-click My Computer > right-click the desired
hard drive > Properties > Tools > Error-checking/Check Now. This will
run Chkdsk, normally on the next reboot.

Unless you are actually experiencing a specific problem related to
your hard drive's file system, there's no real need to run Chkdsk.
There's certainly no need to do so prior to installing a game.
(Although periodically defragging a partition is good advice.)

To check your computer's memory, as you've asked, you can use Memtest86
from http://www.memtest86.com/

That was his mistake in wording, I was sending him to Check Disk, Gerry. In
case he had the terms confused as per his subject line.
