scab disk at startup

I have had to re build my PC with Windows XP Pro several
times and have had enough. Please can one of you
wonderful techies help.

After shutting down my PC correctly and having no problems
when I next turn on my machine it:

a. takes for ever to start up
b. Warns me that one of my dirves may have a problem and
needs to be scanned.
c. When the scan gets to about 96% loops and starts the
scan again.

I can cancel the scan disk which show some of the files as
unreadable and the machine starts ok but is sluggish.

The hard dive makes a strage ckicking noise once in a blue
moon but I have restored it to factory spec with format4
and know it is okay.

This is a very annoying problem and has caused me no end
of trouble including loss of emails and large on line game
files for my husband.

It sounds like your hard drive is dying. Get another one
and try that.

Any clicking noise coming from the hard drive IS NOT OK!
