I have a user who has asked me if it is possible to save
an Excel file(.xls) as a .PDF file to e-mail to someone
as a read only type file. I have experimented with
several file types and have not been able to accomplish
what he has asked. Apparently the person to whom he
wants to send the files to has asked that it be in .PDF
format. A little help here would be appreciated.

I had this problem a while ago and found tha MakePDF does the job very well.
It just involves setting up a 'printer' (just the once) that creates a .PRN
file, which you then just drag onto a shortcut that turns the PRN into a
PDF.

The only way I know of to save Excel as a .pdf involves
owning a copy of Acrobat itself (not just Acrobat Reader)
on that computer. You can go to file, create adobe PDF
(which appears when you install Acrobat) and do a save.
Acrobat Distiller will turn the file into a pdf file.
Hope that helps.

You can get the Acrobat writer (not the viewer) from Adobe, but it's
expensive. It'll produce PDF files from any application.

Adobe also has an on-line service with a free trial:
https://createpdf.adobe.com/

There are a few alternative less expensive pdf writing programs and
services, but I haven't tried any of them. Check out
