Saving www images

I don't know if this is the correct forum, but I have recently got a new
(second hand) computer and am now using XP after many years of '98.
My problem is this, when I save images from the 'net (by clicking on the
little 'Save as' button that appears in the top right corner of said image)
all images are named 'untitles' and are all in .bmp format. This was not the
case from when I first got the computer, but has started only a few days
ago.
What can I do to return the process to its original method of saving them
using the images own name and format?
