Saving Word Documents

I have some word documents that ask if I want to save
changes every time I try to close them, regardless of
weather I have made any changes or not. I have other word
documents that don't do that unless I make a change. I
have tried copying the entire document and pasting it
into a new word document and still come up with the same
problem. Can anyone help?

I was informed that this usually means that the documents
contain fields that update every time the document is
opened, such as a DATE field. Word is thus reporting,
truthfully, that the document has indeed changed. You can
always say NO to the save prompt.

However I need to correct this problem. Is there a way to
turn this off or remove it. I don't see any fields that
resemble the afore mentioned situation.

Thank you,
Eddie

If the problem is fields, you can replace the fields with their results:
select the field (or the entire document), and press CTRL-SHIFT-F9. You'll
have to deal separately with headers, footers, etc.

If the problem does not relate fields, check if you have any macros that run
when you open the document: these might be leading Word to think that the
document has been changed.

Also bear in mind that printing the document 'changes' the document by
updating the DateLastPrinted property.

How do I check macros? I have never used them before. I
opend tools/macors but don't know how to tell if one is
running.

If this is Word 2002 or 2003, see "WD2002: You Are Prompted to Save Changes
When You Close a Document Even Though You Have Made No Changes" at

I would just like to thank the genius that helped me fix
a problem that I have been fighting for 2 years but never
did anything about.

Thank you

Glad I could help.
