WordPerfect has the ability to "publish to PDF" when you are saving a
document. Doesn't Word have the same ability?? Is there an option to save a
Word document in PDF format within the basic program??? Or are you required
to BUY another product to do that???

Thanks in advance.

G'Day Pat,

You have two options:

1. Buy a Word to PDF converter (usually a form of
virtual Printer) - search Google for "word to pdf"
and you will find quite a few. I have used both
'Visage eXPert PDF v3' and 'ScanSoft PDF Create'
with good results.

2. Download Open Office (free) from
http://www.openoffice.org/
(Do NOT download the v2.0 beta - it is very, very
good but not yet stable).
Open Office (v1.x) comprises the core of Sun Star
Office (v7), but without formal support. It has four
principal components:
Writer (Word Processor)
Calc (Spreadsheet)
Impress (Presentation)
Draw (Drawing Package)
The component 'Writer' has a significant degree of
compatibility with Word. It will open many '.doc' files
and will 'Save' to PDF format.

Pat,

Check out www.pdf995.com. This neat little utility allows you to convert
Word to *.pdf files by selecting "Print" from the "File" menu and selecting
pdf995 as the printer. There is a free version, which is fine for the
occasional pdf conversions, although it opens your browser when it is done
with the conversion and takes you to the pdf995 website to see if you want to
buy a license. If you like it, the license is only $9.95. Read the download
instructions -- you will need to download two files to install the utility.
You also may want to look at pdfmachine white
(http://www.pdfmachine.com/et/download.html) -- it works similar to pdf995.
