Open OL2003, arrange toolbars the way I want them, close and when I re-open
they seems to revert to some default settings. Does anyonce know how to
"save" changed Toolbar settings?

Randy

Rename Outcmd.dat to .old with Outlook closed. Next time you open Outlook,
you can create all of your toolbars, arrange them as you like per folder.
Close Outlook and copy the Outcmd.dat file you created when you recustomized
the toolbars. Save this in a safe place. Whenever you add customizations
to the toolbar, remember to copy that file to your safe place. If your
toolbars corrupt, all you need to do is rename the current file and
substitute the most recent backup.

Dear Milly (and Everyone),

Hi. I've been having a very similar problem, too.

As noted in my post to the microsoft.public.outlook.general group, titled
"OL2002: Toolbar out of place and won't go back", when I open a
previously-sent e-mail, my toolbars are out of position (i.e., now above my
menu bar). When I move them to the right place, close the e-mail and re-open
it, my changes are gone and the toolbar is, again, above my menu bar.

My other post goes into greater detail about what I've done to research
this, so please feel free to read (and, even, respond to) it.

I've also just tried Milly's suggestion about "outcmd", but that didn't work
for me.

Any ideas, please? Thanks for your time and your help.

Sincerely,
Bram Weiser

I also have the problem too.

I also tried the "outcmd" solution, but without any effect regarding toolbar
positions NOT saved.

It seems, that Outlook 2003 really do have a bug.

I am running Windows XP + SP2 + Outlook 2003 (german version) with all
available updates applied.

If you are looking around several newsgroups (also try to search for
"toolbar position" in THIS newsgroup), you will see, that this annoying
problem exists on many installations.

If using word as the editor, what addins and toolbars are used? For
outlook's main window, what toolbars are displayed?

I have no problems with the toolbars, especially once I closed the acrobat
addin's toolbar.

Dear Diane (and others),

Hello, and thanks for following up on this thread.

I'm using Outlook XP (as opposed to Hans' 2003), and, yes, I've set the
Acrobat toolbar to launch (though, typically, it doesn't do so in Outlook for
me, nor does it if Outlook is launched and I want to also launch Word or
Excel independently...but that's another story...:-))

Otherwise, I'm usually using the Standard and Formatting toolbars, though,
on occasion, others (such as Reviewing or Web) appear without my specifically
asking for them).

Please let me (us) know if you have further questions, and thanks again.

reviewing toolbar is stored in the normal.dot - if they were turned on in
word and not turned off, they will be visible when composing email in
outlook and using word as the editor.

word's web toolbar is also stored in the template and displays in email if
it's turned on in word - outlook's web toolbar is in outcmd.dat.

Dear Diane (& others),

Thanks, but I usually don't turn them on (are we going off-topic a little
here?) and maybe they appear because the original composer of the e-mail used
them?

Anyway, even if they aren't visible (my "default" setting), this
magically-moving toolbar scenario happens...often...and they remain out of
position even if/when I manually move them back to where they "should" be
(i.e., Menu Bar "should" be on top).

Does this clarify my situation? Please let me know if you have any more
questions for me (us), and thanks again.

Again, I "played" around with my OL2003 toolbars, but the problem (toolbar
positions are not saved respectivly not restored correctly) still persists.

To answer the question about my actual configuration:

1. I have disabled Word - so i am not using word for editing emails

2. I have disabled ALL AddIns AND ComIns

3. I discoverd following:

I have installed Microsoft's Business Contact Manager and it seems, that BCM
does not position it's Toolbar (e.g. History Toolbar) in a standard way.

The BCM Toolbar cannot be seen on the standard toolbar selection/customizing
dialogs, so I can't disable the BCM toolbar. Next I simply DELETED the BCM's
toolbar, with following effect:

Next time, I started OL2003, BCM restored it's toolbar and reposition it as
last toolbar.

I agree, that from OL2003's point of view, the BCM is a third party tool.
But on a user's point of view (as mine) BCM is a Microsoft released Tool,
that should not behave like this, instead it should behave like other third
party AddIns/ComIns for OL2003 allowing to customize its toolbar/toolbar
position in the same way OL2003 does it.

I will try to completly uninstall BCM, but I have currently no more time to
spend on this issue.

the sender's toolbars have absolutely nothing to do with your toolbars.

Find and rename the normal.dot and outcmd.dat files - disable the acrobat
addin in outlook.
http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2004/20040902.htm

If using addins in outlook, disable them. (Tools, options, other, advanced)

"OL2002: Toolbar out of place and won't go back", when I open a
previously-sent e-mail, my toolbars are out of position (i.e., now
above
my
menu bar). When I move them to the right place, close the e-mail
and
re-open
it, my changes are gone and the toolbar is, again, above my menu
bar.

My other post goes into greater detail about what I've done to
research
this, so please feel free to read (and, even, respond to) it.

I've also just tried Milly's suggestion about "outcmd", but that
didn't
work
for me.

Any ideas, please? Thanks for your time and your help.

Sincerely,
Bram Weiser

:

Rename Outcmd.dat to .old with Outlook closed. Next time you
open
Outlook,
you can create all of your toolbars, arrange them as you like per
folder.
Close Outlook and copy the Outcmd.dat file you created when you
recustomized
the toolbars. Save this in a safe place. Whenever you add
customizations
to the toolbar, remember to copy that file to your safe place.
If
your
toolbars corrupt, all you need to do is rename the current file
and
substitute the most recent backup.

BCM has it's toolbar set for a specific position - it will cause problems.
As long as you remove BCM from your profile, it should remove the toolbar.

Also - I believe toolbar positions in outlook's window are not saved until
outlook closes- so if outlook remains running when you close it (because a
pda or something is still using data), the toolbar changes may not be saved.

Again, I "played" around with my OL2003 toolbars, but the problem (toolbar
positions are not saved respectivly not restored correctly) still
persists.

To answer the question about my actual configuration:

1. I have disabled Word - so i am not using word for editing emails

2. I have disabled ALL AddIns AND ComIns

3. I discoverd following:

I have installed Microsoft's Business Contact Manager and it seems, that
BCM
does not position it's Toolbar (e.g. History Toolbar) in a standard way.

The BCM Toolbar cannot be seen on the standard toolbar
selection/customizing
dialogs, so I can't disable the BCM toolbar. Next I simply DELETED the
BCM's
toolbar, with following effect:

Next time, I started OL2003, BCM restored it's toolbar and reposition it
as
last toolbar.

I agree, that from OL2003's point of view, the BCM is a third party tool.
But on a user's point of view (as mine) BCM is a Microsoft released Tool,
that should not behave like this, instead it should behave like other
third
party AddIns/ComIns for OL2003 allowing to customize its toolbar/toolbar
position in the same way OL2003 does it.

I will try to completly uninstall BCM, but I have currently no more time
to
spend on this issue.

it's turned on in word - outlook's web toolbar is in outcmd.dat.

Dear Diane,

Hello again.

Thanks for this advice, but two important points make it different from what
I'm experiencing:

1) Microsoft Outlook toolbars do NOT show a Send as PDF button, in contrast
to what the outlook-tips.net link indicates.

2) My registry does NOT have a PDFMOutlook.PDFMOutlook entry or folder at
the location you cite. The only folder at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins is
Microsoft.VbaAddinForOutlook.1, with a LoadBehavior of 9 (not 2 or 3).

Also, are you saying to rename my current normal.dot and outcmd.dat (never
heard of that last one before), and that they'll both regenerate just fine?

Please let me know your thoughts about all this, and thanks again.
