have been trying to save performance monitor logs to a log
file so i can view them later via perfmon.

how is it done? i have looked at the help and it is no help!!

many thanks in advance

From MMC HELP:

To save log or alert settings as an HTML page
[[Open Performance.
Create a log or an alert.
In the details pane, right-click the name of the log or the alert and click
Save Settings As. By default, the settings are saved in the user's personal
default directory, which is is typically My Documents.
Note
To open Performance, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and
Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click
Performance. ]]

thanks Wes,
for that that did work, but under the performance monitor,
there is and option to
'Save Data As...' and under the help (and also via a right
click on the interface) it tells me that I am able to do
this, but mine is always greyed out...why is this??? and
how can I use it???

have you any ideas???

any help on this is greatly appreciated.........

My Save Data As is grayed out also.
Use Save As...

Right-click the displayed graph, and then click Save As.
In the Save As dialog box, select a path and type the name of the new HTML
file.
Save as type:
Web Page
Or
Report
Pick one
Give it a name
Click the Save button
Go to where you saved it and open it

[[You can apply the counter settings saved as an HTML page by dragging the
HTML file from Windows Explorer onto a System Monitor graph. If you open the
HTML file in a browser, it will display a static System Monitor graph
containing the data at the time the HTML file was saved.]]
