Saving in Word

My main concern is microsoft word, whenever I edit in microsoft word it constantly saves, I can type a few words and the egg timer will appear also my Brother HL-5040 printer will freeze and will not print what I send to it

I am having to unplug from the back of the printer when the red status light comes on when I send my work to print

Please help we have un-installed and re-installed

Do you have auto save turned on? For Word 2002 it is:

Tools>options>save

There is a section about 1/2 way down for AutoRecover info every XX
minutes.
