I changes the computer name and user name on an XP Home
computer. SP1 and all Windows Update patches are current
as of 10 minutes ago. When I made the user name change in
Users in Control Panel, the folder structure under
Documents and Settings kept the old user name, as
expected, and Windows will use the new name in the
Welcome screen. However, it appears that anything else I
do expects the old name for the account. For example, if
I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and choose Change Password, it won't
let me change it unless I use the account's old name.
Also, Task Scheduler won't recognize the new account name
in a task for logon permissions, it only recognizes the
old name. I also tried changing the computer name, not at
the same time as the user name change, but task scheduler
still thinks the old computer name is the correct one.
Why won't these name changes fully propogate. As I
stated, I understand the user's folder structure names
not changes, but everywhere else it ought to change.
