Thanks to the help here I was able to make a template. I
saved it as .pot, according to Sonia's directions. When
I go to the templates folder, there is a PowerPoint
template there, but it is the original one. The one I
named Template Ocean Andy 66 is not there.

I saved it to my desktop and I can open it from there. I
tried three times to save it to the Template Folder. How
do I access that folder? I have been trying right click
on Start, Explore, then looking for the Template folder.

hi dot,

i don't know if you have followed the link provided by
sonia in her reply. soniacoleman.com is an excellent
resource, and you might consider viewing the site for
other reasons as well.

the template folder is stored in the following directory
by default,

c:\program files\microsoft office\templates\presentation
designs\

this is where powerpoint looks for its templates by
default so when you create a template (.pot) file try
saving it here first.

of course you can, as you did, save it on your desktop,
and you can simply double click the file and it will open.
but it sounds as though you'd like to have the file in the
default folder for future use too. so remember, try saving
your .pot file in c:\program files\microsoft
office\templates\presentation designs\ if you installed
powerpoint with the default settings, and you should be
fine.

hope this is fo help to you dot.

Scott Harvey

Where templates are stored depends on the version of PowerPoint and other
things. On my system, for PowerPoint 2000-2003, templates are stored in
C:\Documents and Settings\Sonia\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.
However, my templates for PowerPoint 97 are stored in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office 97\Templates.

You can set the location yourself in Word 2003 (Tools > Options > File
Locations), but it won't affect PowerPoint 97.

That's why I referred Dot to the link on my site. The method described
there will definitively identify where PowerPoint looks for templates.

Dot, do you have Outlook Express installed on your system? Check for
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe. It is a news reader and you
might find it to be a lot more friendly for reading and making posts. It
will also allow you to just click on a link and your browser will take you
there. Try copying this into the Address box of Internet Explorer and it
should do the
rest for you.

Thanks. That worked.

Hello,

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
