There are several ways to network a template.
Common to all the different procedures is that:
First, you have to save it in a directory, on the network drive, that is
accessible to all the machines that you wish to be able to use it.
Second, you will have to go to each and every machine, and map the path to
that network template directory.
The procedure that I personally like the best is to use the "Alternate
StartUp File Location".
With this procedure, you must save your templates as "True" XL templates,
with the .xlt extensions.
First, create a new *empty* directory on your network drive.
Then, after making your template, do a <File> <SaveAs>,
And in the "FilesOf Type" window, at the bottom, choose "Template*.xlt".
DON'T CLICK SAVE YET !
Careful now, because XL will automatically change the default file location
for this WB to the template location on your own machine's C:\ drive.
You must now navigate to the new *empty* directory that you had just
previously created on the network drive, and then click <Save>.
Now go to <Tools> <Options> <General> tab,
And in the "Alternate StartUp File Location" window, enter the full path to
your new directory.
A caveat here !
When XL opens, it will automatically open all files in this location,
*unless* they are true .xlt templates.
That's why it's best to start with an *empty* directory, and only place true
XL templates into it.
You should now close XL and then re-open it.
When you go to <File> <New>, you will see your new template displayed under
the "General" tab window.
Now you must go to each machine and enter the path in the "Alternate StartUp
File Location" so they can access the template.
If you have a large number of templates, there is a way to create separate
tabbed windows in the <File> <New> window, in order to segregate them. Post
back if you're interested this.

How (where) do I save a template to make it available for
others on a network to use? We are using a Novell network.
