Saved Document opening with name "document 1"

When I open a document by double-clicking on it, the name in the title bar appears as "Document 1" instead of what I had saved it as. When this happens I have to go thru the whole process of saving/naming/etc. When I right-click on a document and click on "open", it opens correctly - with the saved name in the title bar. Is this a setting error somewhere? Or maybe a glitch in my Word?

You have the default action for double clicking in Explorer as 'New' instead
of 'Open'. You are effectively using the document as a template - see
