I'm using Word2003 and want to take a snapshot of some pages. Can't use
print screen, it's too rough and captures all the menus and everything
else...I just want an "image" of a page so I can paste it in somewhere
else... like "Exhibit A"

For a single page, is there any way to "save as" a jpg, or tif image?

Is there a way to "print" to a flat file like this?

Thanks,
George

You could use SnagIt to capture the image. I believe they have a trial
download. It does a great job.

Snagit is a nice utility for making an image file. If it does not have to be
an image file, but jsut sopmething anyone can open, you could use a utility
like CutePDF Writer to create a PDF file. Once installed it shows up in your
printer list to create PDF files via the print function. Very easy and free.
I work for a lrge comapny that has approved it's use. So I am sure it is
safe.

If you just want a .pdf file, you could also use Primo PDF which is also a
free utility that does a great job.

SnagIt will produce PDF format also, but the original requirement was for
jpg or tif extracts which SnagIt excels at. if the OP wants to see what it
is capable of, all the non-photographic images in the Word tutorials on my
web site were produced using SnagIt.

Thanks, great ideas. Just a few brief notes, questions, etc.

-Is SnagIt basically a screen capture (like PrtScrn), or do you "print" to
(a snagit printer) that creates a tif/jpg file for the one (or many?) pages
in the Word doc?

-I do have full Acrobat, and did try creating a pdf. It works "ok", but it
requires another step because then I have to take the pdf and "save as" a
tif/jpg.

-There's one more catch... once the "image" of the text is in the Word doc,
and I go to "create pdf"... sometimes the resolution drops...comes out like
an older 72dpi dot matrix printer...but I think that's an Adobe conversion
setting problem... anyone know?

-Ok, so bottom line is, there is *no* way in Word to "save as", "export", or
any other way to get a jpg/tif or other graphic made on the spot without
several steps like the above, right?

Thanks,
George

SnagIt offers a variety of capture modes. If what you want to capture is
something that you can easily select on the screen (including scrolling
menus, etc.), you can save to a file type of your choice. Whereas
PrintScreen gives you the entire screen and Alt+PrintScreen gives you the
active window or dialog, SnagIt has a broad choice of objects and regions
(with or without the mouse pointer), and it allows you to capture open menus
(which you can't do with Print Screen) and even the entire content of a
dropdown list that you have to scroll to see all of. It can also capture
short videos, scrolling Web pages, etc.

If you want to capture an entire document page, you can "print" to the
SnagIt printer and then save in a graphic format (one file per page). SnagIt
supports a wide variety of file formats and has rich formatting and editing
tools as well. You can find out a lot more about it at www.techsmith.com,
and there is a free trial version available.

You can select text in Word, copy it, and use Paste Special to paste in some
picture format (experiment till you find the one that works best), then
extract that picture from Word as described in
http://www.gmayor.com/extract_images_from_word.htm, but I think you'd find
SnagIt easier and better than that.
