SAVE PICTURE AS FROM INTERNET

I want to save a picture from the internet. I right click on the picture and then "save picture as" a bitmap. When I go to open the file it says "No Preview Available". Previously, with Windows ME I had no problems doing this. I converted to Windows XP and can no longer do this. What do I need to do in order to save pictures from the internet?
