Save or New (installing windows XP)

when you install windows xp dose it save the programs or dose it delete file
and you have to install it again I want it to delete the files can it do that.

You can choose to do either. It's up to you.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

To reinstall or repair xp,one needs to boot to xp cd,if you "repair this copy"
no files/software get deleted.If you select "install xp" "new copy",delete
the
partition,create one,then xp formats and installs auto,all get deleted...
 
Hi Stanley,

It depends on the type of installation you do. A clean install, one where
the drive is formatted or repartitioned during setup, will result in the
loss of all data and existing programs. A repair or upgrade installation
will not remove data, and generally preserves existing installed software.
