It appears that Office under XP needs to resolve (or identify) all
items before it can "Save As". I was having (not responding) problems
when trying to save to my desktop. I have several shortcuts to other
network computers on my desktop. It was taking a lot of time to
resolve these shortcuts especially if some of those computers were not
currently "live" on the network. I removed the shortcuts from the
desktop. Problem gone.

Hi,

Do the Title bars flash? If the ans is yes,

Please see the Kb article # 812075 "Title bar flashes or the Word program
becomes unresponsive when Word 2000, 2002 or 2003 is running" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=812075

Hope this helps ...... :)

Appreciate the hint but flashing was not part of the problem nor am I
running Norton. But to more fully explain....... The problem happens
during "Save As" txt in Word or .cvs in Excel. It seems that Office
must look and identify all available files at that directory level.
The not resonding problem appears to be a timeout because it will
eventually give up on the network shortcuts, list the files and allow
the save.

Thanks for the help
