Save As - file already exists

Scenario: I want to save a new file using "Save As" with a similar filename
to an existing file

1. In the Save As window I select the desired destination folder (SAVE IN:)

2. In the file window I find a file with a similar filename to the one I
want to name the new file and single click it to select it - this also copies
that filename into the filename textbox below

3. I go to the filename textbox and modify the filename to be a unique name.

4. When I press SAVE button, a popup informs me that I'm trying to overwrite
the file I'd origninally selected above. NOT GOOD

This mechanism worked fine in XP Home and saves a lot of work doing a "Save
As" operation if I want to save a new file by changing only a couple
characters of an existing files filename.

Why doesn't this work in Vista Home Premium?

Thanks for the suggestions and/or fix!

Sorry I don't have a fix but wanted to confirm that I've seen this also. As
a curios sort, I went ahead and told it to overwrite. It saved the file with
the new name just exactly how you would expect and left the "original" file
unaltered. So except for the warning dialog, it works correctly.

Thanks! That's very helpful!

So it appears that the code looks at the highlighted filename when checking
for an existing file rather than the filename in the textbox.

Doesn't sound like a tough bug to fix.
And we found it! :-)
