You can't. Save it as DOC and use one of the many ZIP utilities to compress
the file.

I have been very pleased with WinZip. You can get a free trial version from
www.winzip.com, but the full license is only $29.

Hi Suzanne,

I installed the last version of Winzip but I don't see the option I was looking
for:
Export a Word document as ZIP, in Word "Save as" dialog box.

How do you do it?

Santista

You can't do what you are describing that you want to do.

What they(group members) meant was... download/install WinZIP. When you are
done editing your doc, close Word. Use Windows Explorer and go to the
directory where the document is, right-click on it and click on the desired
ZIP function in the popup menu.

You can do this in the Open or Save As dialog, but only if the document has
already been saved as a Word document. Right-click on the filename and
choose the appropriate item from the WinZip menu. WinZip doesn't integrate
with Word in the same way that, say, Acrobat does, to add menu items and
toolbar buttons to convert a document to a PDF.

Don't hold your breath. And frankly, I wouldn't want it to. I'm perfectly
happy with the current situation, especially since what I use most often is
"Zip and email."
