I live that little bit too far from the local exchange which hasn't yet been ativated anyway..... so I'm hoping someone can suggest an alternative. Is satellite broadband a good, reliable option for a home user?

Does anyone use it and how are you getting on with spead, reliability etc.

If I'm not mistaken, satellite can only be used for download, the upstream still has to be provided by a 56k modem...unless technology has evolved since I last checked up on it.

DirectWay offers two way satelites. You can upload and download via the sat. You'll pay about 59.99 a month and the equipment is about $600.00 installed. I have a friend that has it and he loves it. It's smoking fast. Obviously not as fast as DSL or Cable.

I'm no expert either, but living in an area that is probably going to take a while to get adsl, I checked out satellite. You can upload and download...download is pretty fast, but upload is subject to high levels of lag unless you pay a fortune for the right hardware. If you're into online gaming, satellite is NOT the way to go, but if you simply want to speed up download times on big files it should be ok.

This is an old thread max, but that would be 3 no's unfortunately :(
