SATA DRIVE

Anyone had probs with installing a Maxtor 120 SATA drive?

A new build using Asrock K7S8XE+A/ASR board. AMD3000+ 512DDR333

2 DVD drives set as master and slave on IDE2(tried them on IDE1 same result)

Boot from XP Pro and press F6 to install drivers from floppy as per
instructions and everything progresses as it should. Windows copies files to
hard drive (it is recognized as 'C') but then at the first reboot reports it
can't find SiSRaid.sys. The option to press ESC is there to ignore (the only
other option is F3 to end set-up) and it then goes to on report it can't
find several more files that are on the floppy, it doesn't attempt to read
the floppy but asks about installing from the CD.

Any ideas?

Two DVD drives on IDE 2 same result,what result was it...
If youre simply installing a SATA drive solo,no drivers are needed,the
only reason for installing drivers from a floppy is when 2 SATA drives
are set as a mirrored,or stripped configuration,then install from floppy,
then proceed to install xp.1 maxtor 120 SATA drive is only going to be
good for storage the way youre headed.

I beg to differ with Andrew, however on the Gigabyte based systems that I have used, also with a single SATA drive it was necessary for a driver file.

In those that I have configured, one required to setup the SATA / RAID in BIOS, in this case choosing BASE configuration [not using any RAID functionality]. Also there are two RAID controller options, one for using true RAID functions and another where BASE is used.

I created a floppy driver disk for the specicif function that was setup in BIOS.

No problems with XP installation or reboot.

Check the manual to see if indeed you have given the correct driver for Windows at the F6 prompt.

Also SiS has some documentation on the driver you specified:

2 weeks ago I installed a Maxtor SATA with a new Asus P4P800-E Deluxe MOBO.
Just plugged it in & BIOS automatically detected it.
Formatted & partitioned it from the HDD on IDE1 with PM, imaged over my OS
with D.I. 2002 (do NOT use DI 7.0) & away it went.
No floppies, no drivers needed.

That's interesting John. I helped a friend with his new computer, single HD,
SATA. We just wanted to get a Drive Image backup of his C:\ drive and write
it to another partition. DI 2002 wouldn't work and I was advised that it
doesn't work with SATA. DI 7 did work. Remember that you used DI 2002 from
an IDE drive.

Could you try and image your SATA C:\ drive with DI 2002 floppies or DI 2002
installed on the SATA drive and let me know if it works?
