I'm installing a new SATA drive as my primary drive. No other drive is
connected when I'm attempting to install XP. I have copied the files to
floppy from the mobo CD to control my SATA disk. I choose the XP files after
pressing F6. XP continues to be setup, copying files etc. It then needs to
reboot...but can't find the drive again so it wants to inspect the hardware
configuration again, press F6 etc.

This is a never-ending loop and it's driving me crazy. Help?

Those files arent needed for the F6 function,F6 is for installing the drivers
for a RAID controller,not the hd.If a RAID configuration and/or controller
isnt present on the board, you might think twice about installing the files-
software, from the cd,most are worthless in xp.The only software that can be
usefull and you might now need is a DOS application from the mfg to recog-
nize the hd,and format it,then boot to xp cd,install xp.

My Barracuda 160 Gb SATA did not require any disk only if I wanted to use
RAID. Turned on in bios then partitioned and formatted with xp.

Thanks for the suggestions, but still no luck.

I can't see anything wrong with my BIOS (Award, 09/13/2004) selections:

Standard CMOS Features
- IDE Primary Master = None - If I press Enter to auto detect it finds
nothing

Advanced BIOS Features
- SATA 1, 2, SCSI Boot Order = SATA 1, 2, SCSI
- First Boot Device = HDD-0 (but I've tried a combination of everything
inc. SCSI, etc)

Integrated Peripherals
- VIA OnChip IDE Device
- Onboard SATA 1, 2 = Enabled
- SATA mode = IDE
- Onchip IDE Channel0 = Enabled
- Onchip IDE Channel1 = Enabled

It's as if there is no controller software present in the BIOS. If I use
Seagate's Disc Wizard from a boot floppy it doesn't see the drive either.
There are no jumpers to configure on the board.

On page 65 of your manual it shows the BIOS screen for enabling the onboard
SATA............have you done this??
