Sata drive help

Please help to find driver/controller for new Sata HDD on KM400-M2 K7.
Cant seem to find it on the MB installation disk (or maybe I cant
recognise it )
Win XP asks for Manufacturers support disk to be inserted in "A" and
it seems that what I have taken off the MB Inst disk onto the floppy
is not what the system wants.
There is no item specifically referred to as a Sata tool..only" Raid
tool"
but it doesn’t seem to want that.
I’ve exhausted my limited knowledge and must now appeal for help!

If you are not setting up a raid array you do not need the drivers. You must
however make sure your bios settings are set up so that the SATA device is
bootable. Different bios' may differ in language. Mine has SATA settings as
Raid, Single, etc.

I believe this is incorrect. I've set up 4 SATA drives now, none of
them in a RAID configuration, and I ALWAYS need the drivers loaded at F6
before I can load an OS. If an OS is already loaded, you will still
likely have to run some sort of driver install before the disk will be
available for use.

For the OP: Take a look at the card, write down the information off of
any chips you find on it, then google for those numbers until it points
to drivers you can use. I recently received a SATA card that in no way
shape or form (including chipset) matched the box or driver disk it came
with, and this was how I found working drivers.

Yeah, sometimes you need 'em and others not. It's
easier/safer/etc to just have the driver. Plus, if the
controller is RAID-capable it's not a bad idea to go ahead
and set the drive as a single span and add the driver, THEN
if you ever wanted to recofigure an array that's already
taken care of.

Your method of obtaining the driver is the best way, it is
better than using a driver that comes in a retail box with
product because such shipping drivers are typically less
mature. Even more important with relatively young tech like
SATA.

Same here. Although I have probably set up over 50 SATA drives.

Not once - ever - has Windows loaded without installing the drivers at
F6.

I find it ludicrous that Windows, at initial install CD boot, will load
all manner of drivers, yet insists on your physically adding them at F6.

Why can MS not release a Service Pack / update that natively holds all
the modern SATA drivers?

I mean, it holds the Adaptec 1540 drivers - and they're over 10 years
old and more. I haven't even seen one of these cards for nearly 10
years.
