The last time I picked up a virus I wasn't having much luck with Symantec's removal tool so I used System Restore. It seemed to do the trick then. Would someone please let me know if it would work with this new worm. Thank you very much, Johnn

A friend of mine had the Sasser,Blaster and Netski worms
all at once,I gave him a copy of McAfee's stinger and it
removed all three.

Thank's very much but I'm particularly interested in whether or not using System Restore to go back to say a Jan 1st restore point might work as a fix for a Saser Worm infected system

Funnilly enough,my Mum (Who constantly rings me
asking "Have you got Netsky/My Doom/Sasser"etc)was
watching a British television programme during the Sasser
outbreak.
The Presenter advised just that:roll back using system
restore.
I cannot testify from personal experience whether this
does indeed work...but,it did for that guy.

There again,he might not be bothered about whether his
computer is still infact ommitting Sasser traffic because
the malicious process was not dealt with properly...?

Hi,

Yes you can use system restore to restore your machine back to an earlier time. However you should only use this method if you kow exactly when the virus infected your machine. Eg. If you got the virus on the 9th (2days ago) then do a system restore to the 8th.

The procerss does not stop there after doing the system restore you still need to connect to the internet go to www.microsoft.com/sasser and downlaod security patch MS04-011.
