We have had our cd/dvd replaced to the above by a professional computer shop
and we keep getting messages when we insert cd's or dvd's saying "Try again"
"continue" and usually have to press one of these a few times to get the cd
or dvd in motion. The computer shop assures us that our player is alright but
we never used to get this message with the other one. Sometimes it is ok
sometimes it isn't. Do you think we should be worried about it.

margie,

This type of behavior is usually indicative of one of two things. The first
is that your CD/DVD media is dirty or otherwise bad. The second is that the
device reading it is bad. What you are seeing is essentially a read error.
The drive is attempting to read data on the disc and due to bad tracking, a
bad disc surface, or other problems, failing in those attempts. If you are
having this problem with multiple discs, you did not have the problem with
your old cd drive, and you are certain the discs are clean and free of
scratches, it is almost certainly a problem with the drive. Also, keep in
mind that if you are using copied versions of certain games keep in mind that
they may employ a form of protection that your new drive is sensitive to that
your old drive was not. If this is the case, you have no basis to return the
device. My advice assuming that is not the case: place a few new CDs in the
drive and observe whether the problem continues. If it does, demand that the
drive be replaced on the basis that you were given faulty merchandise.

Hope this helps.

All that is required is to update the drives firmware,
this is a very common requirement of every drive.
Once upgraded, it will function just fine, But.........
You appear to have got the model number
wrong?http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/query.aspx?keyword=CDRV/DVD SM-352F

In device manager, your samsung shound be listed as TSSTcorp?
If your Samsung is indeed listed in device manager as Samung!
RIGHT click the entry
Select properties
Then the "Details" tab.
The actual details of model listed there- is what you use to
search the above update link.
Also listed will be the "Device Instance id"
This details the current firmware installed,
It will read something like TS06>
If you find latest version is TS11, you only install that -
Not intermediate versions.

thanks I will look into that.
