Hi.
My modem properties will not allow me to configure the settings. It says the
modem is using IRQ "18". Does xp dish out some "virtual IRQ's"?
Anyway, in 98, the modem uses COM2 and IRQ 10 (sharing with some onboard
components). In xp, it wants to use COM4 and IRQ "18" and I can't uncheck
"use automatic configuration" to reconfigure.
The modem, "Motorola SM56PCI Speakerphone" is detected upon installation
however will not connect nor receive AT commands (I think -I'm not that
professed at telnet).
I've downloaded the proper drivers yet nothing works. My immediate thought
is that it has assigned an IRQ (18) that doesn't exist but I can't change the
IRQ assignment.
Please help.

IRQ 16 does exist in the ACPI mode!

Try to disable the standard COM2.

Access the driver in Device Manager. Select "Advanced" tab and click on
"Advance Port Settings". You can now change the COMx setting.
