same shortcut and directory name in parent dir ?!

Hi,

I just made a shortcut to my network (NT Server) Outlook directory in
my local (XP Pro) doc/settings...When I open Outlook it creates an "Outlook"
directory even though there already exists a shortcut with the same name.
Why does Outlook do this, and how can I have two entries named "Outlook"
in one folder ?

Sounds like you are going about things in the wrong way. To set the
location where outlook stores it's data files I think you need to start
Outlook and change things under...

Tools -> Options -> Mail set-up -> data files

It's possible to have two or more objects with the same name if they are
different types of object eg:

mum.jpg
mum.mpg
mum.txt

It's not a good idea to have file extensions turned off in case someone
sends you one like this....

Readme.txt.exe

all you see is

Readme.txt which looks like a harmless text file but is executed if you
double click it.

You can have two "Outlook" entries because you have Windows Explorer set to
Hide extensions for known file types.
