Why are you trying to delete the SAM?

Do you know what it does, and what the implications of doing *anything*
with it are?

I have a Windows 2000 machine of a customers, It does not have a
CD-Rom and only access via a USB floppy.

The customer has forgotten her password and I need to remove the SAM
file in order for me to be able to log in again.

Although I haven't got any experience in password changing per se, there is
at least one password modification tool available that fits on a floppy.

If you'd rather take the SAM approach, the SAM file is located in
%systemroot%\system32\config.

Ensure that there are no files that are EFS encrypted as I believe
replacing the SAM could render any encrypted files unreadable.

HTH,

Yes I have a few kicks at the cat regarding the Floppy utils but most
likely I will go for the SAM route.

aD THANX I appreciate all the insight.

Welcome - I was frosty to start with as I wasn't sure if someone had
randomly told you to delete SAM as it makes Windows 2000 10x faster!!!! or
something :-)

You mean my pc won't run faster if I deleted it LOL
