Safe senders list isn't very effective...

If I understand the safe senders list correctly, Outlook should only deliver
those messages to my inbox from those on that list.

If this is the correct assumption, then mine does not work as it lets pretty
much anything addressed to me in there. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you.

No, that's not the way it works. The "safe senders" list guarantees that mail from those senders will arrive in your Inbox and not in the junk folder. It has no bearing on what happens to mail from other senders.

You didn't say whether you have the junk filter set to Low or High.

Thank you very much for that informative response. I have the junk filters
on "Safe Lists only" which implies an even scricter filter than "High" as it
says
" Safe Lists Only: Only mail from people or domains on your Safe Senders
List or Safe Recipients List will be delivered to your Inbox."

I certainly do not doubt your response but perhaps MS should reconsider how
that's worded.

Thank you.

You said nothing about using the "Safe Lists only" setting in your original post.

You are correct that it is a more restrictive setting. I haven't heard of any problems with its operation. You might want to look at not just the safe senders list but the safe recipients list. If your own address is on the safe recipients list, then you'll get everything sent to you in the Inbox.
