I was trying to install an update of Adobe reader and the installation could
not be complete. I had a message that said if put my computer in safe mode
then maybe the installation could finish. I did that but now I can not get my
computer back to the original mode. My printers and some of my programs will
not open. I can connect to the intenet but cannot run my windows stuff. Can
you help me or do I need to have my computer taken in?

Assuming you go directly to Safe Mode wihtout the intervening screen:

Pretend you're going for Safe Mode again, even though you know that's where
it's going to go, and press F8 after the POST. The window that opens will
have a choice to use the "last known good configuration": Try using that.

While in safe mode open msconfig from start | run. On the boot tab uncheck
the box for safe boot. Then restart the system.
