how do you get safe mode in xp home

Same as with XP Pro. Restart the computer, as the BIOS screen
disappears repeatedly tap the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu
appears. Choose safe mode.

With Win2000 a friend tried that, selected safe Mode, but then it asked for
password. He tried every password they have for logon, but no go. Ideas?

(Yes, I know this is an XP forum, not W2k, but they are related)
