Safe Mode Lockup

Had to enter safe mode for the first time yesterday on home computer, XP Pro
w/SP2.

When I get to the log in screen (no passwords involved, have Admin rights as
well), when I move my USB mouse, XP locks up and I have to hot boot. Normal
mode works fine.

I intend to see if plugging a PS2 mouse in will solve this issue. It it
doesn't...does anyone else have any ideas about what could be causing the
problem?

Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide!

OK, I think the issue is solved (this may help others). I ended up using a
PS2 mouse and keyboard, and unplugging any powered USB device (except a cable
modem). I had been running a USB hub off a Dell 2405FPW monitor, and I had a
USB connector cable to communicate with a UPS. After doing this, I was able
to get into Safe Mode and mouse around for awhile. I didn't do extensive
testing (didn't feel in the mood), but it did work. I'll consider this issue
resolved. If not, I'll amend this thread. Thanks for the help!

I always use a standard keyboard and mouse instead of a USB keyboard and
mouse. ;-)

Well...the problem is back. My system works fine running XP in normal mode.
When I switch to Safe Mode, whether using a USB or PS/2 mouse, the initial
movement of the mouse cursor locks up Safe Mode, and I have to reset to
reboot.

Very frustrating. Anyone have any ideas?
