Runtime Error R6025

When I try to download certain things, like windows
updates, macromedia flash players,etc., I get this error-

Microsoft Visual c++ Runtime Library
Runtime error
Program c:\Program files\internet explorer\iexplorer.exe
R6025
Pure Vital Function Call

I have tried reinstalling IE6 to no avail. Checked
several of the .dll files. I am running Windows ME. Any
suggestions? Besides getting rid of ME. Thanks.
