In running XPe from a CD-ROM, is it necessary to have a different SID
for each CD or would it be enough just to make sure each system had a
unique Computer Name? - SD

OK, so it looks like a SID change is needed as some of our installs
will be on workgroups, these leads to a couple more questions:

- The NewSID docs state that a reboot is needed after changing the
SID; how is this implemented on a CD since a reboot would drop you back
to square one (endless loop)?

- NewSID apparently modifies each file on an NTFS partition, how is
this handled when the media is read-only?

Hi,

I do not use this since I do not need it but few hints.

1. You don't need to use NTFS.
2. You can do RAM boot.
3. You need only to handle SID values exposed to outside world. (network)
4. There are low level protocols (TCP, etc) that do not use these values.

So depending on your intended usage you always have choices.

And just to add to that one more option..

FBreseal. If you launch it just before you burn the image on CD, on the boot you should see the Cloning happening.
So, supposedly, you will get new SID each time you boot from the CD.

If you use EWF with your CD bootable image, then even if it is NTFS all files will be handled ("changed") properly in RAM (and
temporarily until reboot).

Although, I have never tried fbreseal'ed image booting from CD.
