I did this too, but not on same hard drive...

I imaged that XP to a second drive, installed Vista, and learned
it.... but I don't use it... it doesn't do what I want it to.... so I
use XP, but play in/on/with Vista....

You could install it to another partition, that would be a great
idea....

You don't provide a whole of info to work from, like how is the drive
now partitioned, what problems are you having getting XP to install,
what have you tried, etc?

So from a general standpoint I can recommend tools such as Bootit NG
from http://www.bootitng.com. This partition/boot manager can be used
to set up a dual boot that will allow you to keep your Vista and XP
installations completely independent of each other. This has the
advantage that if you ever want to get rid of either, the other will
remain unaffected.

If you want to use Vista's built in support for setting up dual boot,
that can be difficult without a lot of command line learning. To help
with this, I recommend the free tool VistaBootPRO from
http://www.vistabootpro.org/index-about.php.

If you need additional help beyond this, please provide details, being
as specific as possible.

You haven't given any info on the system, setup, drive configuration, what
you have tried, what didn't work and how it failed, so it's hard to give
advice. Start with providing more info.
