If you want to use Linux, you need to learn to use Google. Yes, it is
completely possible to dual-boot XP/Linux. Yes, it is possible to run
Linux on a laptop. Make sure you investigate if your hardware is
compatible. You would do this, btw, for *any* operating system you
wanted to install, not just Linux.
Google for "dual boot XP Linux" and get about 405,000 links.
Google for "Linux on laptops" and get over 3 million links, with the
first few being the most useful ones.
